Internal Grooming and the Movie, "Forks Over Knives"

Many of us are highly concerned about personal external grooming -- that is, shaving.

Yet many of us neglect our internal grooming -- that is, the condition of our circulatory system. Neglecting our artery health leads to heart attacks (myocardial infarctions), strokes, and peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Did you know that 25% of the men that are at risk for heart attacks only find out when they have their first, fatal heart attack?

Think about that. Despite screening and the general advancement of medical care, one in four men with artery-disease risk don't know it until they suddenly drop dead.

Internal grooming isn't just about living longer either. It is about having a higher quality of life every day. At the present time, Americans have become so accustomed to seeing overweight persons that the average American can't even use the eyeball test to determine if someone is of healthy weight or not. Being overweight itself leads to joint problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic illnesses.

As a university- and hospital-trained registered dietitian nutritionist, this has been a concern to me personally for a long time -- both for the welfare of others and my own. I, myself, now being of a certain age and still in excellent health, am concerned about my own latent, potential health risk. My family history is spotty at best, and I have not always eaten the healthiest of diets; in our youth we often take our health for granted, and eat as though we will live forever.

So I am now on a plant-based, whole-food dietary regimen that is not intended to be temporary; no, it is for a lifetime. This approach has been shown to halt and reverse artery disease. It is the same plan that former president Bill Clinton has been on since his cardiac-bypass surgery. It is also the plan that is covered in the movie "Forks Over Knives." This movie may be available for free on YouTube or at no extra cost via Netflix.

I hope you have a chance to view this movie, and consider attending to your internal grooming as well as external.

Happy shaving!
